The Incredible thing about this Beef Tomato Soup, Is not only its flavor. Which is smooth, savory with a bit of smokiness and good amount of zest to it, that can be enjoyed all by itself or with a Grilled Cheese on the side, Crackers or a Sandwich. But that it is also used to make so many more other dishes. Including Shepherds Pie, GMT, or Goulash and serves as the base for at least four (4) other soups.
Campbell’s Vegetable Soup Ingredients
BEEF BROTH (WATER, BEEF STOCK), CARROTS, POTATOES, TOMATO PASTE, PEAS, PASTA (WHEAT FLOUR, EGG WHITE), SUGAR, CORN, POTATO STARCH, GREEN BEANS, BARLEY, SALT, CELERY, CANOLA OR SOYBEAN OIL, MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE, CABBAGE, DEHYDRATED ONIONS, YEAST EXTRACT, HYDROLYZED PROTEIN (SOY, CORN, WHEAT), FLAVOUR, SPICES, CARAMEL.
Homemade Beef Tomato Soup Ingredients
Water, Tomato Paste, Pimento Paste, Butter or other form of fat, Beef Bouillon, Smoked Paprika (Hodi Sweet Smoked with Beech), Lemon Juice & Chickpea Flour, Salt & Pepper.
Smoked Paprika
You need a good quality Smoked Paprika and for this I use Hodi Paprika ~ Sweet Smoked with Beech. This is just an amazing Paprika, but can be hard to find. So another high quality Smoked Paprika will do, like a Hungarian Paprika.
Salt & Pepper Blend
Use Salt and Pepper separately or the Salt & Pepper Blend which includes White Pepper to season the Tomato Soup.
Salt & Pepper Blend Ingredients
- 1 Tbl Sea Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 tsp White Pepper
Vegetable Beef Soup
The Vegetable Beef soup is built upon the same ingredients used in this Beef Tomato Soup and made in the same style as Campbell’s Vegetable Soup, with the addition of vegetables. Which is surprisingly very similar in flavor, like remarkably close, my copycat Campbell’s Vegetable Soup recipe.
Short Pasta can be added, even the alphabet pasta, for a Homemade Alphabet Soup.
Beef Tomato Soup Uses
This soup base is excellent all by itself for a bowl of Beefy Tomato Soup. Not only is it a very flavorful Soup. But it’s robustness and versatility lends itself to so many more other recipes. The same ingredients are used as a soup base for Vegetable Beef Soup, Cabbage Roll Soup, Stuffed Pepper Soup and Hot Dog Soup.
Not only that, but it’s also used as a Campbell’s Vegetable soup substitute in Shepherds Pie, and does an exceptional job at it, without skipping a beat.
Shepherds Pie
This beef Tomato soup is also used in Shepherds Pie in place of the Campbell’s Vegetable Soup that is used. This recipe makes over the two (2) cans of Campbell’s Vegetable Soup, without the vegetables and pasta. So I usually just add a frozen vegetables mix to fill it out, just the same as the Campbell’s soup cans and cook it down, so that it’s sturdy enough to take on the mashed potato topping. Optionally, make the Beef Tomato Soup and portion out 2 1/2 C to use for the Shepherds Pie. Which is roughly the same amount s as two (2) cans.
Whether you use Campbell’s Vegetable Soup or this Homemade Beef Tomato Soup to make the Shepherds Pie. The two are remarkably similar. Where if other brands of Vegetable or Tomato Soup were used, it just doesn’t offer up the same taste. Now that’s pretty impressive!
For something New! Instead of making Shepherds Pie. Try the filling over a Baked Potato for a Shepherds Baked Potato. Plate the Mashed Potatoes and ladle the Shepherds Pie Filling on top for a Shepherds Mash or over Fries for Shepherds Fries, optionally with some cheese.
GMT
For GMT (ground meat, macaroni, or other short pasta and a tomato product) or just Goulash. Boil the Pasta in salted water, while you brown Ground Beef in a pan with diced Onions & minced Garlic, optionally some Peppers. Strain the al Dente Pasta out and add it to the pan, with as much of this Tomato Soup recipe, to bring it together. Mix well while cooking for a bit and adjust the seasoning and serve.
Serve it with some Buttered Bread, Dinner Rolls or Papo Secos (Portuguese Rolls) and Cheese.
Beef Tomato Soup Sides
Enjoy this soup for a Lunch or Snack with some Crackers. As a meal, serve it up with a Grilled Cheese, Sandwiches, or even Garlic Fingers or Twisty Bread. Below are some side ideas for Beef Tomato Soup.
The Lumberjack or Dagwood, which is a review I do on them, is a huge Sub Sandwich you can pick up at Sobeys.
A Grilled Cheese is your Classic side for a Tomato Soup.
Another wonderful sandwich with Tomato Soup is your Classic BLT Sandwich.
Another take on the Classic BLT Sandwich is the English BLT served on toasted and buttered English Muffins.
A Bologna Sandwich is also quick, easy, and good on the side.
For an Arby’s style Bologna Sandwich, use Shaved Bologna on a buttered and toasted hamburger bun. This is mentioned in the recipe for a Bologna Sandwich.

Beef Tomato Soup Diet Type
This recipe for Beef Tomato Soup is suitable for the following diet types.
Gluten Free Tomato Soup
Be sure to use Gluten free Beef Bouillon Cubes. This soup relies on Tomato Paste & Chickpea Flour to thicken the soup instead of Flour. Making this the perfect Gluten Free Bowl of Tomato Soup.
