BEST Breakfast Plate

Start your weekend morning with the BEST breakfast and be set for the day! Made with crispy strips of bacon, eggs, breakfast sausage, and toast. While this is a stellar breakfast, it can be served for brunch, lunch, or sometimes as a main meal, which is very nice now and again. It can be eaten as a breakfast platter or everything assembled for the BEST breakfast sandwich.

Ingredients for BEST Breakfast

Bacon, Eggs, Salt & Pepper, Round Breakfast Sausages, Bread, and Butter.

Bacon

Start the bacon first since this will take the longest to cook. Take a whole package of bacon and lay strips down on a large baking sheet. Place into a cold oven at 400°F and cook for about 13-15 minutes or until crisp to your liking.

Bacon Grease

Strain out the bacon grease into a cermaic bowl and use some of it for cooking the eggs. Save the remaining bacon grease for other recipes.

Eggs

The eggs can be done up in whatever style you want. I prefer sunny-side-up because I like to sop up the warm egg yolk with toast. But you can opt for mini skillet baked eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs like the Turkish eggs, over-easy eggs, steamed eggs optionally with that Aleppo butter, or fried eggs.

Stovetop Sunny Side Up Eggs

For this recipe we are making 8 sunny-side-up eggs. Which we will do in batches of four.

  1. Place the skillet on medium heat with fat and let it warm for about 3 minutes.
  2. Add four eggs & seasoning. Shut the heat off and cover with a lid.
  3. Leave the pan on the burner for a few minutes until the egg whites are firm. About 3 minutes.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the next batch of sunny side up eggs.

Salt & Pepper Blend

Combine the below ingredients to create the salt & pepper blend to season your eggs and sausages with.

Salt & Pepper Blend

Salt & Pepper Ingredients

  • 1 Tbl Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp White Pepper

Egg Salt

You can add in extra ingredients for seasoning the eggs; I often do trying to work out a good egg salt blend. Some of the included ingredients can include butter popcorn seasoning for a buttery note. Black salt to up the eggy flavor. If using either of these, drop the salt amount down to account for the added salt through the popcorn seasoning or black salt. A small amount of chili powder or paprika can be added for speckles of red through the seasoning.

Breakfast Sausages

Breakfast sausage can be store-bought breakfast patties or sausages. You can also go with store-bought Italian sausages, for which the skin can be removed and the meat pressed into 45 g round breakfast sausage patties.

Homemade Breakfast Sausages

Another option is to make a homemade Italian sausage mix and portion out to 45 g to 60 g patties. Once the patties are made, place them on a baking sheet to freeze. When ready to cook, sear over medium to medium-high heat straight from frozen for about 2 minutes per side or until the juices run clear.

Italian Breakfast Sausage

For a very long time I have been trying to figure out the McDonald’s breakfast sausage recipe, and this is proving really difficult. The below is an image of one such attempt, and it is a very good breakfast sausage that I think I only need to tweak just a bit to make it my go-to breakfast sausage recipe. It also needs to be darker in color.

I did, however, figure out a sausage seasoning that results in that same savory, salty, and tangy flavor that the McDonald’s breakfast sausages have.

Seared Breakfast Sausages

Tangy Sausage Seasoning

I use this seasoning for breakfast sausages to create a savory tang to the sausages. Combine the below ingredients together and mix well. Season breakfast sausage to derive that same savory, salty, and tangy seasoning on the McDonald’s breakfast sausages. MSG is optional, but you lose out on the savory depth. The citric acid is what gives it that tang, and the below amounts are pretty spot on. Sprinkle on the breakfast sausages when searing, just enough to season.

  • 1 Tbl Sea Salt
  • 1/2 Tbl Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp MSG & Citric Acid

Toast

For toast, go with your standard white or whole wheat bread slices slathered with butter. Or opt to go with specialty breads such as sourdough breads or English muffins. The toast can be prepared while cooking the bacon, eggs, and sausages.

BEST Breakfast Sandwich

For the BEST breakfast sandwich, all the food items in the BEST breakfast are stacked on a buttered toasted English muffin with an added cheese slice. Optionally with sauces added, like mayo, pepper zing mayo, Dijonnaise, or Deli Mayo.

While the bacon is cooking, combine the salt & pepper blend and start toasting the bread and cooking the eggs.
