If you’re ordering out Pizza or making a Homemade Pizza, make this Papa Johns Garlic Sauce! With only 5 ingredients to give you Lip Smacking Butter Garlicky Goodness in about 5 minutes. Put some Pizzazz on your Pizza with this Homemade Papa John’s Special Garlic Dipping Sauce.
Made with a special Ingredient that really takes this over the top. Resulting in a Buttery Garlic Kick like no other. It’s what brings it all together.
This is my take or version of a Papa Johns Garlic Sauce. You will see other recipes online just combining Butter or Margarine with Garlic Powder & Salt or Garlic Salt. Yet it’s missing something. It’s not quite the same as Papa John’s. It’s because it’s missing out on that Buttery Kick and just a hint of acidity. This recipe will give you your fix.
PAPA JOHNS GARLIC SAUCE INGREDIENTS

HOMEMADE PAPA JOHNS GARLIC SAUCE Ingredients
It is made up of only Five Ingredients. Despite its simplicity. It results in a Phenomenal Sauce, used classically for dipping Pizzas and Twisty Bread/Bread Sticks. Although, it can be used for a wide variety of other foods.
Papa John’s Special Garlic Dipping Sauce Ingredients
- Butter
- Sunflower Oil
- Butter Popcorn Seasoning
- Fine Garlic Powder
- Pinch of Citric Acid
BUTTER
Use real Butter for better flavors. Although Margarine can also be used, Butter is really much preferred.
Butter
Neutral Oil
Soy Bean Oil, Sunflower – which is the one I use, or a Neutral Oil is used to thin out the Butter. This also leaves it in a liquid state or close to it. Olive Oils or other flavored Oils do not work and ruins the taste by overpowering it.
Sunflower Oil
GARLIC POWDER
Use a Fine Ground Garlic Powder. You can use Garlic Granules, and I did originally when creating this recipe. After I got my hands on some fine Garlic Powder, this does indeed work out much better. Using Garlic Granules, the Garlic will settle at the bottom, which you just stir before serving. Not really a big deal. But the Fine Garlic Powder does work much better. I still use the same amount (1 1/4 tsp), but you can adjust this to suit your taste.
BUTTER POPCORN SEASONING
AH the Secret Ingredient! Not only does this up the Buttery Flavor throughout the dish, especially since the Oil is introduced for consistency. But it offers a vibrant color to the Sauce as well as introducing the Salt component.
I had to go out and order the Garlic Sauce from Papa John’s. Just to test the Garlic Butter Sauce side by side to see which was better, and WOW!
I must say mine is pretty strong and bold compared to Papa John’s and that is certainly more preferable for me. I believe this recipe to be much better. You can tone it down by adding in less Garlic & Butter Popcorn Seasoning, I like it Bold Smack your Taste Buds Good!
Butter Popcorn Seasoning
This is the secret ingredient and what makes this recipe stand out from the rest.
I pick this up at the Bulk Barn under the name “Buttered Salt – Popcorn Seasoning”.
CITRIC ACID
Only a very small amount, a few granules of Citric Acid. I just pinch the Citric acid and add it in. Maybe like 1/4 of 1/8 tsp. It shouldn’t be noticeable, but assist in lightening up the Sauce.
