Donair Pasta Bake made with Rotini Pasta, Donair Meat, Donair Sauce, and Cheese on top. It’s a simple dish made much like the Donair Poutine with Pasta used instead of Fries.
Donair Meat
This is another dish where the texture of the meat is secondary. Using either thinly shaved Donair Meat and then chop it down into confetti or using Donair Seasoned Ground Beef and cook it in the skillet, breaking it apart as it cooks.
Use 1 1/2 Tbl of JAH Donair Spice with 1/2 lb. of Ground Beef and mix well. Cook over medium high heat. Either way is fine. Add some diced Onions if desired.
Donair Sauce
Donair Sauce is used as the main sauce for this dish. The Sauce will break down and leave behind nodules, which I really enjoy, especially with the cheese. Have this prepared in advance.
The Ingredients are
- 1 can Evaporated Milk
- 3/4 – 1 can Sugar – or about 1 Cup of Sugar
- 2 Tbl Vinegar
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- Empty the milk into a bowl and using the same can fill 3/4 with sugar and place that into the bowl. Add Garlic & Onion Powder
- With a mixer, whisk the bowl until the milk turns a whiter color and all sugar is dissolved.
- For about 12 turns with the whisk, slowly add 2 Tbl Vinegar.
- Cover and refrigerate at least for 1 hour, overnight is best.
Pasta
This recipe uses Rotini Pasta, but any Short Pasta will do.
Bring a Pot of Water to Boil for about 2 cups of Pasta. Strain and add the Sauce, along with the Donair Meat. Mix well and empty into two single serving Au Gratin Dishes or Casserole Dish.
Top it up with a Mozzarella & Provolone Cheese Mix at a ratio of 3 parts Mozzarella and 1 part Provolone. Bake in a preheated oven at 450 F for about 5 minutes or a bit longer. Optionally broil the top for color.
Onion & Tomatoes
Add diced Onion & Tomatoes to the Donair Pasta Bake. Cook the Onions with Donair Meat or, if using precooked donair meat, sauté the onions just until soft. Add fresh diced tomatoes or serve on top as part of the garnish.
