BLT with Parmesan Toast
BLT Header

Love these! A must have once in a while. This sandwich has been around for a very long time and for good reason. Sometimes only a good BLT Sandwich will do.

There are so many variations you can do with this. With adding Fried Bologna, Chicken, Sandwich or Deli meats, a Sausage flattened out into a patty or a burger.

BLT Bread

Just your Classic White Bread toasted and then buttered. Although, there are all kinds of specialty breads that can be used too. Adding Parmesan Cheese works really well.

The quickest and easiest way is to butter before or afterward and toast in a toaster. Buttering before will give a light toasting to the buttered area, and everywhere else will toast up heavy.

Parmesan Toast

Parmesan Toast

Buttered Bread with finely grated Parmesan Cheese pressed in and then toasted. You can also just toast the bread, butter and add Parmesan cheese while the toast is hot.

Parmesan Toast both sides

Parmesan Toast both sides

The buttered side will toast up lighter than the other side.

English Muffin BLT

English BLT

A BLT is also perfect on English Muffins, and they’re the perfect size for a sliced Tomato or two.

Bacon

Place Bacon on a baking sheet and into a cold oven. Set the temperature to 400 F and bake for about 12 – 15 minutes, or until the desired crispiness. Drain and save the Bacon Grease for other recipes.

Optionally crack some fresh ground Black Pepper over the Bacon before going into the oven. Just for that little extra.

Bacon Halves

Thick Cut Bacon

Slice the Bacon in half, so you can get full coverage without too much bacon sticking out of the BLT Sandwich.

Pan Fried Canadian Bacon

Canadian Bacon

Include Canadian Bacon, or just use Canadian Bacon for a Canadian BLT.

Lettuce

Iceberg lettuce is the lettuce of choice. More so for the texture it offers, it’s just perfect on a BLT.

Torn Lettuce

Iceberg Lettuce

I find about 25g – 30g of Lettuce is perfect on a BLT Sandwich. Either Chopped, Sliced, or Torn.

Fresh Packaged Basil

Basil

Basil pairs exceptionally well with Tomatoes and offers a light, feel-good experience when eating.

Either added directly to the BLT Sandwich or chopped and included with the BLT Sauce.

Tomatoes

I usually just pick up regular Tomatoes on the vine or Field Tomatoes. Although, Beefsteak or Heirloom Tomatoes offer the best Flavors and Juiciness. Season the Tomato Slices with a bit of Salt & Pepper.

Beefsteak Tomatoes

Beefsteak Tomatoes

Wash and slice a Tomato to about 1/4 inch – 1/2 inch thick. The Tomatoes should be about or just about the same thickness as the bread.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes

Field Tomatoes or Tomatoes on the Vine can be used.

Salt & Pepper Blend

This is the Salt & Pepper Blend I use in quite a few places. Just a light sprinkling on the Tomato Slices will make the flavors pop even more.

Salt & Pepper Blend

Salt & Pepper Blend

  • 1 Tbl Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp White Pepper

BLT Sauce

The Classic Sauce is just Mayonnaise. But we can tweak this up a bit. An excellent Zesty BLT Sauce is Mayo with a Splash of Lemon Juice and some Salt & Pepper blend for a Pepper Zing Mayo. This is really good with your Classic BLT Sandwich and other sandwiches and wraps like the JFC Snackwich.

BLT Sauce

BLT Sauce

This is my go-to sauce for a BLT Sandwich. It just has a nice Zest with some Pepper.

  • 1/4 C Hellmann’s Mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp Lemon Juice – or more for a zingy sauce
  • 1/8 tsp Sea Salt & Black Pepper or use the Salt & Pepper Blend to taste
Mild Mayo Sauce

Mild Mayo Sauce

Another favorite is Mild Mayo Sauce which is really good too.

Open Face Beef BLT Burger

Mustarshire Sauce

Mustarshire Sauce is good too and is used for the BLT Burger.

  • 1/4 C Hellmann’s Mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp Dijon Mustard & Worcestershire
  • 1/2 tsp Basil
  • 1/8 tsp Black Pepper

Other BLT Sandwich Fillers

While the Classic or traditional BLT is just that, and sometimes that will only do. Don’t feel like this Sandwich is limited. The combination is so good and lends itself to a whole array of other items that can be added and still come out on top.

Other fillers can be added to create numerous versions of the BLT Sandwich. Add Avocados, Cucumbers, Sliced Onions, Dill Pickles. Different types of Meats and Eggs can be added too.

There are just so many things you can do with a BLT Sandwich. It’s been around for a long time, and for good reason. Check out below for other BLT ideas.
