A seared juicy beef patty topped with sauerkraut, yellow relish, ketchup. Optionally with bacon, and cheese served on a toasted bun. A sauerkraut burger combines the savory richness of a beef patty with the sour and fermented flavor of sauerkraut that adds a brightness that cuts through the richness of the meat, balancing the flavors. The yellow relish adds more bite and a warming spiced flavor from the spices used in the pickled cucumbers. While the onions in the relish add more depth. The overall flavor is hearty, tangy, warming spiced undertones, and deeply satisfying.
Sauerkraut Burger Ingredients
Hamburger Buns, Hamburger Patties, Sauerkraut, Yellow Relish (Pickled Cucumbers, Onions, Yellow Mustard), Ketchup. Optionally with Bacon & Cheese.
Hamburger Patties
Make sure you have the Patties weighed out, portioned and frozen to be ready to go when making this recipe. Whenever I have Beef Suet, I always chop it up and include it in the burger mix. It just adds so much more.

Hamburger Seasoning
Season the Burger patties as they cook with Salt & Pepper or our Salt & Pepper blend, which includes White Pepper. Season the Burger Patties as you cook them.
Salt & Pepper Blend
- 1 Tbl Sea Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 tsp White Pepper
Hamburger Buns
Set the skillet over medium heat and Butter the Hamburger Buns. Place the Buns in to toast to your liking and set aside. Once the buns are toasted, the pan will be hot enough to start searing the burger patties.
Sauerkraut
Homemade Sauerkraut is just the best to use, and I often let this go for a really long time to get it really sour, naturally. Although sometimes I substitute with a bit of Vinegar too. Remember the more naturally sour this goes the more health benefits can be derived from it. Even just having a spoonful every morning can have huge impact on improving health and gut flora.
As a Burger Topping, it is just really nice. Add as much as desired.
Yellow Relish
What an incredible Relish that just adds so much flavor wherever it is used. It is made by first preparing and fermenting Pickled Cucumbers. Once these are prepared and ready, they can be combined with Onions and either Ketchup for Red Relish, Mayo for White Relish or Mustard for Yellow Relish used for this recipe.
The Yellow Relish & Sauerkraut together, just make this burger pop with a beautiful sharp hit of flavors. Followed by the subtle flavors of the warming spices used in the Pickled Cucumbers, it’s just an amazing Burger.
Sauerkraut Burger & Fries
Make some Oven Fries while you prepare the Burgers on the stove top for dinner. The Fries take about 30 minutes, so leave them be for 10–15 minutes in the oven and then start the burgers to have everything ready to serve at once.
