Pillers Sub Pac Classic Deli meats

The deli meats used for this sub sandwich are the Pillers sub pac classic deli meats. Which contains luncheon meat, pepperoni, and smoked ham. Placed on the buttered bottom bun. The top sub bun is just buttered and toasted; it will later be topped with cold sandwich vegetables.

The 400g Pillers sub pac contains about 15 slices per type of meat. This allows you to make 3-4 ovensubs.

  • For 3 footlongs or 6 x 6 inch subs, use 5 slices of each deli meat.
  • To stretch this out for 4 footlong ovensubs, use 4 slices for each sub and the last 3 slices for the last one. Then use the next deli meat and place only 3 slices on the first one and 4 slices on the remaining sub. The last deli meat you place 3 slices on the second or third one and 4 slices on the remaining subs. This ensures all subs have a total of 11 slices of meat, with one sub having an extra slice. Serve them up as footlongs, or slice them in half to make 8 x 6 inch subs.

Toasting Ovensubs

Preheat the oven to 450F with the rack in the middle position or one notch higher while you prepare the ovensubs.

Place the tray into the 450F preheated oven for 4-5 minutes to toast the subs and just melt the cheese. After these come out of the oven, they’re ready to be topped with sauce and cold sandwich vegetables.

Ovensub Cold Toppings

The cold toppings go on after the sub has been toasted with the hot ingredients. Spread the desired amount of Hellmann’s mayonnaise on the now toasted top sub bun. Then add the desired amount of thinly sliced lettuce, onions, and sliced tomatoes. Optionally with salt and pepper over the vegetables. Flip over the top bun onto the bottom bun with meat & cheese. Slice in half and serve right away.

You can also wrap these in tinfoil or waxed paper for holding to serve later.

Italian Dressing

Any Italian dressing will work here to bring some tang and herbal notes to the ovensub. I used a homemade Italian dressing that I was testing. Store-bought Italian dressing will work just as well, or even the Ezee Sub Sauce, which is really good.
