Serve as a light Dinner or Lunch over Steamed Rice or Fried Rice with some sauce drizzled over too. These can also be used as an appetizer tray, with a tooth pick inserted into each meatball.
Honey Garlic Meatballs Ingredients
Pork Meatballs (Ground Pork, Flour, Sea Salt, Smoked Paprika, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Baking Soda), Quick Honey Garlic Sauce (Sugar, Water, Soy Sauce, Ketchup, Garlic Cloves, Molasses, Rice Vinegar, Sea Salt, Ginger).
Meatballs
Store-bought or Homemade Meatballs can be used. If going with Homemade, then use Ground Pork and the below seasoning to shape the meatballs into 1 Tbl portions. Feel free to add additional ingredients to shape the overall flavors, but try to stick with spices that would be complimentary to a honey garlic sauce. Such as Chinese 5 Spice in very small amounts, Ginger, Dry Mustard, White or Black Pepper, Red Pepper Flakes etc…
Ground Beef or half ground Beef and half ground Pork can also be used.
Honey Garlic Meatball Seasoning
Place all the seasonings into the bowl, then add the ground pork to mix really well.
- 1 lb (ca. 454 g) Ground Pork
- 1 Tbl Flour
- 1 tsp Sea Salt, Smoked Paprika, Onion Powder, & Garlic Powder — each
- 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
Once the meat mixture is mixed up and portioned into meatballs to lay out on a tray. Freeze the tray of meatballs. Once frozen, take them out while heating a pan up over medium heat and flip them over so that the flat side is facing up. Once ready to cook, transfer them to the pan, flat side up. This will help round out the shape as they cook.
Quick Honey Garlic Sauce
The Quick Honey Garlic Sauce is what is used to sauce these meatballs up and can be prepared while the meatballs are cooking. Place all the ingredients into a bowl and whisk, then add them to the meatballs when they are done cooking. It won’t look like a lot, but is enough for 4 servings.
Quick Honey Garlic Sauce Thickness
The Sauce is a thin sauce meant to glaze the Meatballs and extra sauce to coat the Rice. If serving as an appetizer or a thicker sauce is desired. Then cool the Meatballs & Honey Garlic Sauce in order to add a slurry to thicken the sauce. This is because the sauce is made up of very little water and a lot of sugar. The temperature will be too hot for a slurry to work and thicken the sauce. If cooled before adding the slurry then you will get thickening power, provided it is not heated too much, which will cause it to break.
Sauce Consistency: If a thicker sauce is desired, set aside the meatballs after cooking to cool down a bit. Then add to a small bowl, an equal amount of Cornstarch or Potato Starch with Cold Water and mix, about 1/2 Tbl. Heat the Meatballs & Sauce over medium heat again and add the slurry a little at a time while mixing. Once thickened, immediately remove from heat. Repeat as necessary to get the desired thickness. If too thick, add water to adjust.
How to Sear the Meatballs
Place the pan large enough to fit all the meatballs in a single layer over medium heat for about 1 – 2 minutes. Then add the Frozen Meatballs and cover with a lid. Leave for 2–3 minutes. Uncover and move the meatballs around. Cover again and cook another 5 minutes. Shake the pan around every 30 seconds or so, to move the meatballs around, for a total cook time of 8 minutes. Then the meatballs are ready to take the Honey Garlic Sauce.
Serving Honey Garlic Meatballs
These Honey Garlic Meatballs make for an excellent appetizer tray. Where each meatball can be presented with a toothpick inserted as appetizers. Honey Garlic Meatballs are also good for a lunch or a light dinner. Served with Steamed Rice or Fried Rice. Place the Meatballs on top of the Rice or on the side with more sauce drizzled over, so that it gets into the Rice too. Garnish with Green Onions & Sesame Seeds. For a bit of heat, add some chili flakes or Lee Kum Kee Sriracha Sauce.
