Introducing Donair Rice! This is 1/2 lb of Sliced Donair Meat with Onions & Tomatoes cooked in a beefy broth and Basmati Rice, with Donair Sauce.
The natural flavors of the Donair meat blend in with the Rice and Broth. This is a Hearty and Meaty Rice Dish, good all by itself.
Donair Rice Ingredients
This dish is pretty simple, especially if you already have the donair meat. If you don’t, that’s okay too, because this dish works with just cooking the ground beef with the donair seasoning in a skillet as well.
Rice
The Rice used is Basmati Rice. Washed and rinsed before placing it into the Rice Cooker, with 1 tsp of Sea Salt per Cup of Rice.
Instead of water for the Rice, use a Beef Maggi Bouillon Cube in 1 1/2 C of water and heated until dissolved completely before adding to the Rice Cooker.
Donair Meat
There are a couple of ways to do this with the donair meat. I created this dish using leftover sliced donair meat. From all the testing, I was doing on the Donair meat itself.
But this can be done using regular ground beef with the donair seasoning too. Either way is fine and will produce an excellent Donair Rice dish.
Sliced Donair Meat
You need about 1/2 lb of already cooked and sliced donair meat.
If you don’t have this, then the Donair meat will need to be prepared, cooked, and sliced in preparation for this dish. If you are looking for finely chopped slices of donair meat. Although the Ground Meat version works too and is an excellent time-saver.
Ground Donair Meat
This is another dish where the texture of the Donair meat is secondary, focusing more on the flavor the donair meat contributes.
For this version, the standard Donair Seasoning can work too.
- Just add 1 1/2 Tbl of JAH Donair Spice or half of the Basic Donair Seasoning Below to the Ground Beef and mix well.
- Cook over medium-high heat until browned.
- Add in the Maggi Beef Bouillon cube and water. Cook until the bouillon cube is completely dissolved.
- Add this to the Rice Cooker with the other ingredients and cook.
Optionally, you can add the Onions and Garlic to the Ground Beef halfway through cooking it.
Basic Donair Mix
This recipe uses JAH Halifax Donair Spice. But the Standard Donair Seasoning version can work well with this dish too and is outlined below.
The Standard Base Seasoning is 1 tsp of the below-listed ingredients per lb of Ground Meat with the exception of Cayenne Pepper which is 1/8 tsp and upwards.
Some only use 1/2 tsp Garlic & Onion per 1 lb of meat. You can start with 1/2 tsp Black Pepper, Onion & Garlic, and 1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper and then up it based on your preference. Some use Italian Seasoning or Za’atar in place of Oregano. MSG is almost always added.
- Salt
- Oregano
- Garlic
- Onion
- Paprika
- Black Pepper
- Cayenne Pepper
Donair Meat always has some kind of Binder in it. But for this dish isn’t really required. Especially if you are going the cooked ground meat way of preparing this dish.
Vegetables
One diced Onion & one diced Tomato, washed and rinsed before adding it into the Rice Cooker. Diced Peppers could be added as well.
The vegetables can be added to the rice cooker or mixed in with the rice after it has been cooked. Optionally, you can do both. Using half to cook with the rice and the other half to serve with the rice.
Cooking Donair Rice
Everything goes into the rice cooker and is set to the White Rice setting. This takes about 35 minutes to cook and is the simpler method of making up some Donair Rice.
If using just the ground beef method, then Combine 1/2 of the basic Halifax Donair Seasoning or 1 1/2 Tbl of JAH Donair Spice with 1/2 lb of ground beef and mix well. Brown in a skillet.
Add Maggi Beef bouillon cube and 1 1/2 C water, cook until the bouillon cube is completely dissolved before adding to the rice cooker with the remaining ingredients.
Donair Rice Variations
Donair Rice is fantastic all by itself. However, it can be combined with other ingredients to really elevate this into a Savory Saucy dish with some kick, if you should so choose.
For a platter version meal, This Donair Rice can also be combined with some Donair Samosas, a Donair Salad on the Side, Hummus, Pita Bread, and Various Grilled meats.
One of our favorites is Donair Samosas, Donair Rice with Donair Sauce on top, with a side of Hummus and Chili Oil on top. Really Good!
Donair Sauce
Place the Donair Sauce in a Squeeze Bottle and Drizzle over the top of the Rice or Sauce the plate and place the Rice on Top. Optionally, just serve the Donair rice with a dollop of donair sauce on the side.
Tzatziki & Red Greek Sauce
Sauce the Plate with Tzatziki Sauce and place the Rice on top. Then drizzle a small amount of Red Greek Sauce on top.
Tzatziki & Mild Mayo Sauce
Sauce the plate with Tzatziki Sauce and place rice on top. Then squeeze Mild Mayo Sauce over the rice.

Add in various Herbs & Spices to accent with certain flavors. Use Paprika, Parsley, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Black Pepper, Cayenne Pepper, Oregano, Italian Seasoning, Sumac, Za’atar Seasoning.
