This recipe uses canned Molasses Beans & sliced Hot Dogs fried in a bit of Fat before adding in the canned Beans. Serve this Beans & Hotdogs dish up with some Sauerkraut on the side, just the same as Sauerkraut Sausage & Beans. Add a piece of sliced Buttered Bread or Dinner Rolls.
Beans & Hotdogs Ingredients
Canned Molasses Beans or Homemade Spiced Baked Beans, Hot Dogs, Sauerkraut.
Beans
Pick up a can of baked beans to put the meal together quickly, or make your own Baked Beans or the HP BBQ Beans, which uses Pinto Beans.
Canned Baked Beans
Beans with Pork & Molasses is all you need. With a bit of extra Molasses. Those Sprague Maritime baked Beans were really good too.
Homemade Baked Beans
Incredible Flavors and if time permits, these are the ones you’re going to want to make.
Extra Molasses
If using the store bought baked beans, get the ones in Molasses and add a bit more molasses when adding in the beans. About 1 Tbl or so.
Extra molasses can also be added to the homemade Spiced Baked Beans or the HP BBQ Beans. For the Homemade Beans, I add a lot more than 1 Tbl of Molasses to thicken it.
Smokey Baked Beans
Add a few drops of Liquid smoke to get that campfire baked bean taste. This is used in both the homemade Spiced Baked Beans and the HP BBQ Beans.
Beans with Onions & Garlic
Add one diced Onion and chopped Garlic to Fry with the Hot Dogs for a bit, then add in the beans to cook and heat through.
BBQ Baked Beans
Instead of adding in molasses, add in your Favorite BBQ Sauce to taste. The below is HP BBQ Beans, which is a homemade beans recipe that uses Pinto Beans with the HP BBQ Sauce.
Hot Dogs
Slice the Hot dogs and fry them in a bit of fat. Once fried to your liking, add the beans in and cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
Any kind of Hot dogs, Franks, Kosher or Halal Hot Dogs, or Sausages can be used here. For Sausages, fry them up whole or bake and then slice or serve whole on the side.
Schneiders RedHots Hot Dogs
Fat for baked Beans
A good Fat like Bacon Grease or Rendered Pork Fat. If using Bacon Fat, chop up some Bacon and fry until crisp with the sliced Hot dogs. Then add in the canned Beans and heat through.
For Rendered Pork Fat, check out my post on Rendered Fat. Once you have the Pork rendered, remove the crackling and either discard or chop it down fine and include with the Beans. You can also render the Pork until just softened and include with the beans. For Homemade Spiced Baked Beans you can do the same fat, but Ham fat is really something else.
Sauerkraut
Sauerkraut is just awesome on the side to serve with this dish. It’s got that tang that just washes the pallet, making every bite of the Beans & Hot dogs just as good as the first bite.
The Sauerkraut can be made plain or with numerous Herbs & Spices added for accenting flavors. Homemade Sauerkraut is just so much better than store bought and loaded with Natural Probiotics.
Buttered Bread
A simple thing like a buttered sliced of bread is an awesome side to have with the Hot Dog & Beans.
You could also go with some Buttered Dinner Rolls. Although, some really love to use sliced buttered bread and top it with the Beans & Hotdogs and eat the whole thing.
