The Classic BBQ Burger! A Seasoned and Seared Burger Patty basted with BBQ Sauce on a Buttered Toasted bun with Slivered Onions, Pickles, and more BBQ Sauce. Optionally, with some Mayo.
The BBQ Burger is meant to be cooked on the BBQ or Grill or even in a smoker, which produces a Fantastic Patty. But there is nothing to stop you from doing this on the Stove top or oven, either. If you use the Berry BBQ Sauce or the Smokey version of Pappy BBQ Sauce, you will still get that Wonderful Smokey flavor or just add liquid smoke to your favorite BBQ Sauce. The HP BBQ Sauce is nice too.

Check out my post on How to Make Burgers. Which discusses how to make the Burger Patties, their Sizes, How to cook, and the Seasonings for Burger Patties. Other topics include Toasting the Buns and Wrapping the Burgers, as well as freezing the Patties.
It’s an informative post outlining the various components that come together to create your burger. The Toppings & Sauces are up to you.

Hamburger Seasoning
For the Hamburger Seasoning, you can use the regular Salt & Pepper, or in this case, since we are doing up BBQ Burgers, use a BBQ Seasoning or Rub.
One that I use quite frequently is the Salt & Pepper blend, listed below, to season the burgers. Since this is a BBQ Burger, feel free to add in Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Paprika, and other ingredients for a Burger Seasoning.
Salt & Pepper Blend
- 1 Tbl Sea Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 tsp White Pepper
BBQ Burger Sauce
The BBQ sauce I use for this Recipe is either Berry BBQ Sauce or Pappy BBQ Sauce. Make this up in advance and set it aside to use on the burgers when assembling. Use any BBQ sauce you would like. Another is HP BBQ Sauce.
I used to Brush the BBQ Sauce on after the Burgers are seared on both sides. Cooked in and then brushed again to build a BBQ Sauce Lacquer. However, I find that just cooking the burger patties up and letting people choose their BBQ Sauce and Toppings is a much more convenient way and a better way of delivering a particular BBQ Burger the way they like it. However, if you know you are using a particular BBQ Sauce, then this can also be basted on the burgers just as they are finishing off, either way.
BBQ Burger Toppings
Onions and Pickles are used to top or bottom the Hamburger off. Coleslaw is another additional topping you could use as well. Which works really well with the BBQ Burger.
Cut the Onions into slivers. Do this by halving an onion and then quarter each half. Then slice root to stem for slivers of onions. You can place the onions on raw, but I much prefer they see a bit of heat, just to soften them. The Pickles can be sliced across or lengthwise.
Other toppings to include are Cheese Slices, Bacon, Crispy Fried Onions, Lettuce, Tomatoes, or whatever else you may like. A bit of Mayo can be added too.
