A&W Style Mozza burger topped with Mozzarella Cheese, Mozza Sauce, Lettuce, Bacon, and a thinly sliced Tomato. This is my attempt of recreating this at home.
A & W Mozza Burger
A perfectly seasoned grass-fed beef patty topped with real mozzarella cheese, mouth-watering bacon from pork raised without the use of antibiotics, crisp lettuce, tomato and Mozza® sauce, served on a freshly toasted sesame seed bun.
Mozza Sauce Ingredients
soy bean oil, relish (cucumbers, vinegar, salt, xanthan gum), sugar, water, tomato paste, egg yolk, vinegar, salt, dried onions, potassium sorbate, spices, phosphoric acid, xanthan gum, calcium disodium EDTA.
To me, this sounds a lot like a Mayonnaise with a Red Relish. It’s an orange-colored sauce. Most similar to a Thousand Island Dressing.
In fact, I had a hard time deciding if it was indeed Red Relish or Thousand Island dressing. Since both of these (Red Relish & Thousand Island Dressing) contain all the ingredients listed in A & W Mozza Sauce.
Red Relish
Red Relish is pretty hard to get. In its place, I use Sweet relish mixed with Heinz Chili Sauce for Homemade Red Relish.
Heinz Chili Sauce
This is also very good in place of ketchup for Burgers, Fries, Hot Dogs, etc…
JAH Mozza Burger
Burger Patties
Use burger Patties at 85 – 90 g per patty. Check out my post for How to make burgers.
Sear the burgers in a skillet over medium heat. Season the Patties on both sides and place a Mozzarella Slice on top just before coming off the heat.
Burger Seasoning
I use JAH Rotisserie Seasoning, which I find makes for a very good burger seasoning. However, just the classic Salt & Pepper will work to season the burger patties just as well or the Salt and Pepper ratio used in my Salt & Pepper Chicken.
Salt & Pepper Blend
- 1 Tbl Sea Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 tsp White Pepper
Burger Buns
Use Sesame Hamburger Buns. Butter and toast these up in a skillet over medium heat and set aside to assemble the burger later.

Mozza Burger Sauce
I use Mayonnaise, Red Relish, and a bit of Thousand Island Dressing to achieve the Mozza Sauce.
A & W uses the Mozza Sauce on both the Crown and Heel of the Mozza Burger. At least it appears that way with their images of the Mozza Burger. It’s a sweet-tasting sauce. Optionally, add some sugar to up the sweetness to your desired level. The A & W Mozza Sauce is a bit sweeter.
Mozza Burger Toppings
A & W places all the topping on top. Which include Mozza Slice, 2 x Bacon Slices, torn lettuce, and a thin Tomato Slice. I suspect, but haven’t tried it yet, that Provolone Cheese may be better on the Mozza Burger, maybe call it the Pro Burger.
