The Donair Burrito is here to shake up your idea of this beloved classic! Imagine the rich, spiced meat, sweet Donair sauce, juicy tomatoes, and crisp onions—now wrapped snugly in a tortilla and grilled to perfection. But it raises a fun question: is it still a Donair if the pita is swapped for a tortilla? Or has it crossed into burrito territory? Maybe it’s a fusion of both, a delicious mashup that challenges the rules of what defines these iconic wraps. Whatever you call it, one thing’s for sure—it’s downright irresistible!
Donair Meat
You can choose to shape the donair meat into a loaf and cook and then thinly slice. Another option is to cook the ground Donair meat in a skillet, which is a lot faster to prepare, since it doesn’t have to be frozen, cooked, sliced and pan fried.
Another option is to get a Refried Bean texture by adding 1/2 C water or more to the Donair Meat and mixing well, and then cooking on the stove top until done. This will give you a paste type of meat similar to the Seasoned Ground Beef meat found at Taco Bell.
You can stuff the Burritos with Fries too.

Tortillas
Instead of Pita bread, we use Tortillas to make Donair Burritos. Use the Large Tortillas and toast them over medium heat on both side just lightly. Assemble the Donair Burritos and pan fry them to crisp the outside.

Donair Sauce
I have never found Donair Sauce being sold commercially that resembled the Donair Sauce of Halifax. That’s okay though because you can make this at home pretty quickly and easily, and it is the real thing. Better than any store-bought version.
When saucing, you can place the sauce on top of the meat and then the cheese to further protect it against the heat and becoming runny. My Preference is cooked in with some solid donair sauce on the side to dip. I love the little grainy texture donair sauce leaves behind when cooked, but that’s just me.

Mozzarella Cheese
Use a Mozzarella & Provolone Cheese blend at a 3:1 ratio. This is really a beautiful cheese blend that works exceptionally well with donair meat.

Other Fillings
Add to the Donair Burritos diced Onions & Tomatoes. That’s all that is really needed for the Donair Burrito. The fries are a nice touch too.
