Whoop Whoop It’s the Burger King Whopper Hunger Stopper. This is a homemade version of this Iconic Burger King Whopper. The description of the Whopper by Burger King is
Our WHOPPER Sandwich is a ¼ lb. of savory flame-grilled beef topped with juicy tomatoes, fresh cut lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, crunchy pickles, and sliced white onions on a toasted sesame seed bun.
Standard Burger Information
Check out my post on How to Make Burgers. Which discusses how to make the Burger Patties, their Sizes, How to cook and the Seasonings for Burger Patties. Other topics include Toasting the Buns and Wrapping the Burgers, as well as freezing the Patties.
It’s an informative post outlining the various components that come together to create your Hamburger. The Toppings & Sauces are up to you.
Burger King Whopper Burger Patty
The Burger King Whopper Patty is a Quarter Pound (4 oz. / 112 g) all Beef Burger 100%. About 1/2 inch thick or a bit less. You get 4 Patties from 1 lb. of Ground Beef.
Homemade Burger King Whopper Patty
The size of the Hamburger Patty should be about 1/2 inch thick or less and at least 5 inches in diameter.
Combine the Ground Beef with the Burger Mixin, portion and shape. Place them on a Baking sheet to Freeze.
Burger Seasoning
There are two seasonings that are used, or at least that I use, to make Burgers.
The first seasoning is a Hamburger Patty Mixin that is really good when making Burger Patties from ground beef you buy at the stores. This Hamburger seasoning gives extra Beefiness, Umami and good texture for Hamburgers.
The second seasoning is used on the Patties when searing. You can use Meat Oil to get that hint of Smokey Flavor and extra Umami on the surface of the Patty. Burger King uses Salt & Pepper with Canola Oil and Silicon Dioxide.
Burger Mixin
Standard Burger Mixin for each 1 lb. of very cold Ground Beef. Mix gently & shape into Patties.
- 1 tsp Beef Powder
- 1/2 tsp MSG
- 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
Burger Seasoning
Season your Burgers with this Salt & Pepper Blend.
- 1 Tbl Sea Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 tsp White Pepper
Smokey Burger Flavors
For the Charcoal Grill or Smoke Flavor. Use Charcoal Oil and Brush the Burger Patties or a Bit of Oil and Liquid Smoke before seasoning. I use JAH Meat Oil which has the Liquid Smoke & Oil along with other flavors and is really good on Burgers.
Meat Oil
Blend together well and brush the Patties and then season with Burger Seasoning
- 1/4 C Neutral Oil
- 3/4 tsp Worcestershire & Soy Sauce
- 1/8 tsp Liquid Smoke & MSG
Cooking the Hamburger Patties
Typically, these can just go into a Pan over medium heat once the pan is hot enough to sear. Right after toasting the Hamburger Buns, the pan should be hot enough for the Patties to cook about 2–3 minutes per side, or until the Juices run clear. These can also be grilled with a double-sided grill or even a panini grill for about 3 minutes, or until the juices run clear.
If you overcook the Burgers, they will shrink up significantly. You want to cook the Patties just until the juices run clear, which also happens to have the least amount of shrinkage and the most juiciest.
Hamburger Bun
Use larger Hamburger Buns with Sesame Seeds. Dempster is a pretty good brand, where the Buns are about 4 1/2 inches. Butter & Toast these in a Skillet over medium heat. Your standard Burger Buns are too small and will cause the Whopper to stack up high, which you don’t want. No real difference in taste but big difference in appearance.
Hamburger Buns
Sesame Hamburger Buns, about 4 1/2 inches big. Buttered & Toasted in a Skillet over medium heat.
Burger King Sesame Bun Ingredients
Enriched wheat flour, water, sugar/glucose-fructose, yeast, sesame seeds, vegetable oil (canola or soybean), salt, monoglycerides, sodium stearoyl-2-lactylate, calcium propionate, calcium sulfate.
Contains: wheat, sesame seeds; may contain traces of soybean.
Burger King Whopper Sauce
The Sauce is nothing more than Mayonnaise & Heinz Ketchup. Pretty simple right. The Mayo I am not sure if it is Kraft’s or Hellmann’s, either way I use Hellmann’s or the Homemade Jar Mayonnaise.
The correct portion that Burger King uses is 21 g of Mayonnaise and 14 g of Ketchup, or about 1 1/2 Tbl of Mayonnaise and 1 Tbl of Ketchup for each Whopper.
Burger King Mayo Ingredients
Soybean or canola oil, white vinegar, water, frozen and/or liquid egg, salt, sugar, mustard flour, onion powder, garlic powder, concentrated lemon juice, calcium disodium EDTA, spice. Contains: egg.
Burger King Ketchup Ingredients
Tomato paste (made from fresh ripe tomatoes), liquid sugar, white vinegar, salt, onion powder, spices
Burger King Whopper Toppings
- 21 g or a handful of Lettuce torn into small pieces
- Two thinly sliced Tomatoes
- Three thinly sliced Onion Rings
- Four Ridged Cut Pickles
Whopper Toppings
All the Toppings are cut to a thickness of about half the Burger Patty Thickness or less. It is important to slice thin or else the Whopper will stack high.
Whopper & Fries
While preparing everything, make some Air Fryer Fries to serve on the side. These are seasoned with the Salt & Pepper Blend, about 1 tsp for 1 lbs. of Fries.
