Donair Samoon

A Donair Samoon is Halifax Seasoned Donair Meat & Sauce but delivered in Samoon Bread, topped with Diced Onions and Tomatoes. Optionally with added Lettuce & Cheese.

The same as a Regular Donair. However, the Pita Bread is swapped out for Samoon Bread. It goes really well with a Donair too. The Below recipe uses a Quarter Pound of Meat but you can certainly stuff it with more.

Samoon Bread

Samoon Bread is quite a popular Iraqi Bread. It’s Soft but Chewy with an exterior that is really nice. There is a texture to the bread that I really enjoy.

It can be found in your local Shawarma shop or local Halal/Middle Eastern Grocery Store. They sell for around $1.00 CAD each.

The Samoon Bread can be used for other things as well, not just here for Donair Samoons. It’s an excellent Bread for Salad Wraps, Kebabs, Gyros, Shawarmas or even for your sandwiches.

It’s a Fantastic Bread and when cut in half you get two Cones.

Donair Meat

This recipe uses JAH Halifax Donair Spice.

If you don’t have this. You can pick up Donair Meat at your Local Cash & Carry or you make the standard online version mentioned in the Halifax Donair meat post. While not quite as good it will do the trick to fulfill your Donair cravings.

Donair Samoon Toppings

Diced Onions and Tomatoes are your standard toppings for a Halifax Donair. Additionally, add Lettuce & Cheese.

If adding the Cheese, use a mix of Mozzarella and Provolone at a ratio of 3:1. This is absolutely the best cheese blend for Donairs.

I like to add some Sauce when cooking in the oven and then add more afterward.

Donair Samoon Stuffing

Place the Meat inside the Samoon Bread with Cheese. Wrap in Tin Foil and Pop it into the oven for a bit to melt the cheese. Open it back up and dress with Donair Sauce and vegetables.

Optionally toss the Meat, a small amount of Donair Sauce with Cheese, Onions, and Tomatoes. Stuff the Samoon Bread and place it into the oven.
