JAHZKITCHEN Beef Gravy Mash

This is a simple recipe I just got to have every once in a while and have been doing so for forever. It’s just Mashed Potatoes, Ground Beef & Onions with Gravy. Sometimes I like to add Corn, like a messy Shepherds Pie. It’s such a comforting dinner made in about 30 minutes. The Beef & Gravy are made at the same time you are boiling or steaming the potatoes to make mashed potatoes, and everything is served up hot, for a nice quick meal.

Beef Gravy Mash Ingredients

Ground Beef, Onions & Garlic, Mashed Garlic & Onion Potatoes (Potatoes, Sea Salt, Garlic, Onion, Butter, Cream, White Pepper, Green Onions and/or Parsley), Beef Gravy (Water, Beef Bouillon Cubes, Chickpea Flour, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Black Pepper, Mushroom Soy Sauce).

Mashed Potatoes

For this recipe, I like the extra boost in Onion & Garlic Flavors, so go with Garlic & Onion Mashed Potatoes. However, you can really go with any kind of Mashed Potatoes you want.

Since this dish is just Mashed Potatoes, Beef & Gravy, you really want a big serving size of mashed potatoes. About 175g of peeled raw potatoes per serving, or 700g of Potatoes for 4 servings. Using 2 Ice cream scoops for each plate.

JAHZKITCHEN Thick Garlic & Onion Mashed Potatoes

Beef Gravy

For this recipe, we are using the Beef Chickpea Gravy. It’s a quick and easy gravy, heavy with Beef & Onion Flavors. Instead of Flour to use in a roux to thicken the gravy, Chickpea Flour is used. Just combine all the ingredients into a bowl and mix to set aside. Add it to the ground beef after browning, quick and easy.

Ground Beef

While this dish is made with 1 lb (ca. 454 g) of Ground Beef. You can opt to cut this in half and make the dish twice to save money and stretch the meals out. Another option is a 50/50 Ground Beef & Pork, which is often cheaper than just using ground Beef.

Either way, the ground meat gets browned in the skillet while breaking it up to the desired size. Some like it with Chunky beef bits and other very small and scattered throughout.

Onions

Lots of diced Onions! Not only in the gravy with the ground Beef & Garlic. But in the Mashed Potatoes too. Which is why we use the Garlic & Onion Mashed Potatoes for this recipe.

Beef Gravy Mash Diet Type

  • Diabetic Friendly: This dish can be made diabetic friendly, by cooking the potatoes and refrigerating them and then reheating them before serving. This creates resistance starch in the potatoes. This lowers the blood sugar spike and makes them more diabetic friendly. Furthermore, the Gravy is thickened with Chickpea Flour. Which also drops blood sugar spikes and slows the release of sugar. The two pair up really nice for a diabetic friendly meal.
  • Gluten Free: This dish is completely gluten-free, since it uses Chickpea Flour to thicken the gravy instead of flour. Most Mushroom Soy Sauces contains gluten, so find one that contains no gluten. Kitchen Bouquet can also be used in place of Mushroom Soy Sauce or Dark Soy Sauce.
  • Keto Friendly: This dish is not Keto Friendly.
  • Kosher Halal: This dish is Kosher/Halal using 100% ground beef. Check that you are using Kosher or Halal Soy Sauce, or use Kitchen Bouquet.
