Burger Patties

Make the Burger Patties in advance, weighed out at 90 g per patty. Check out my post on How to Make Burgers for great information on Burgers.

The seasoning used on the burger is below. Add some Onion powder for an extra boost of Onion Flavor.

  • 1 Tbl Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp White Pepper

Browned Onions

For true Caramelized Onions, you will need about 4–5 hours. No Sugar or Wines, Just Onion, Salt & Butter with low heat and mixing often. For this recipe, we are just softening or browning to your liking.

  1. Slice the onions from end to end and place into a skillet with Bacon Fat, pinch of Sugar & Salt over medium heat.
  2. Cook until softened, then reduce the heat to medium low and cook until softened or browned to your liking while covered and mixing often, anywhere from 20-45 minutes.
  3. Add Butter and optionally deglaze the pan with a splash of wine or beer and continue to cook until evaporated.
  4. Add some Green Onions and mix in before taking off the heat.

For the below pic, do the following. 1 onion, cooked for about 45 minutes. At 10 minutes of remaining cooking time, add another onion. Then add Butter at about 5 minutes of remaining cooking time and finally Green Onions before taking it off the heat.

You don’t have to cook the onions this long, you can instead just fry them up in Bacon Fat & Butter with a pinch of Salt & Sugar until softened. How Browned or Caramelized the Onions are is entirely up to you.

Onion Burger Toppings

Add more toppings as you see fit, such as some Fried Onions, Dill Pickles, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Bacon.

Turn this burger into a Mushroom Swiss with added Sautéed Mushrooms & some Swiss Cheese!

French Onion Dip

Pick up some Litehouse French Onion Dip for the Sauce component for the Onion Burger. Along with some Yellow Mustard. Use about 1–2 Tbl of Onion Dip per Burger and about 8 dollops of Yellow Mustard.
