KFC Chips Review

Ruffles KFC Chips
JAH Review

This is a KFC Chips review on the new KFC Chips being offered for a limited time across Canada. Do they taste Like KFC Chicken, or is this just a Marketing ploy?

Ruffles & KFC recently released a version of Chips seasoned with the Secret Herbs & Spices. I had to pick up a bag and test it out for myself.

KFC Chip Review

Does these taste like KFC Chicken? No they do not and this can be disappointing. However, let’s not dismiss this completely. There is something to these Chips.

KFC Chip Ingredients

Specially Selected Potatoes, Vegetable Oil, seasoning (maltodextrin, salt, sugar, monosodium glutamate, milk ingredients, hydrolyzed corn protein, spices, herbs, citric acid, garlic powder, yeast extract, onion powder, dextrose, caramel, paprika, turmeric, natural flavour). Contains Milk.

Ruffles Brand

I do love the Ruffle Brand of Potato Chips and in part I believe KFC to have chosen the Ruffle Brand instead of the Flat chips in particular because of first the Crunch aspect. Secondly the seasoning is very close if not the same seasoning used for a brand of Chips only available on the East Coast of Canada (Atlantic Canada).

Lays Roast Chicken

The KFC Chips taste very similar to the Roast Chicken Chips offered by Lays to the East Coast (Atlantic Canada). Although the Seasoning is not as strong in the KFC Chips.

This is really a mixed review. Being in Ontario, I don’t have access to Roast Chicken Chips. Which I really enjoy once in a while. These Chips are heavily seasoned with the same seasoning as the KFC Chips and can be a bit overwhelming. The KFC Chips have the same taste, but not as heavily seasoned. Which makes them really enjoyable as a Roast Chicken substitute.

Lays Roast Chicken Chips

Lay’s Roast Chicken Ingredients

Specially Selected Potatoes, Vegetable Oil, seasoning (corn maltodextrin, torula yeast, salt, monosodium glutamate, hydrolyzed soy and corn protein, spice, onion powder, vegetable oil, glucose solids, citric acid, dextrose, modified milk ingredients, mono and diglycerides, garlic powder, flavour). Contains Soy and Milk Ingredients

Conclusion

You will be disappointed with the fact that they do not taste like KFC. On the other hand they do taste very good and if you are at all familiar with the Lays Roast Chicken Chips you will enjoy these quite a bit. Especially if you are from the East Coast and have moved westward not being able to access the Roast Chicken Chips anymore. They’re just not KFC.

They are a lighter version in terms of seasoning than the Lays Roast Chicken Chips and this can be a good thing. Since the Lays version is very heavily seasoned and the KFC version is actually seasoned quite nice.

On the other hand I am not sure why KFC just didn’t use their Potato Wedge Seasoning. This I believe would have come much closer to a KFC Flavor profile that is instantly recognized as KFC instead of Lays Roast Chicken.

Either way, these are very good Chips. Just don’t expect the KFC flavor profile to be there. These really should be marketed as a Roast Chicken Flavor offered by Ruffles & KFC. Perhaps KFC Golden Rotisserie Chicken Chips.
