Homemade Tandoori Pizza with Tandoori Chicken. Sauced with Tandoori Pizza Sauce and topped with Onions, Peppers & Cheese. The Tandoori Chicken is marinated and cooked before being stripped off the bone to top the pizza. Chicken Breast or Pork can be used too.
Pizza Dough
The Pizza Dough needs a full day to develop for the Classic Hand Tossed. This is the most time-consuming part of the recipe. It’s a good idea to always make a bunch of these up and freeze them. Then thaw overnight in the fridge when needed to make for a wide variety of items.
Make it with either the Deep Dish or Thin Crust Pizza Dough, as well as making Tandoori Pita Pizzas with store bought or Homemade Pita Bread or making them on Naan Bread. You can also include a bit of Garam Masala in the Dough for this style of Pizza.
Brush on Sauce
Use Garlic Butter, or Garlic Sauce, optionally with a bit of Garam Masala mixed in to brush the pizza before saucing instead of including Garam Masala in the dough.
Tandoori Pizza Sauce
Mix the simple Indian Pizza Sauce ingredients below. Bring to a boil, shut the heat off but leave the pot on the heat. Allow cooling before saucing the Pizza. Add less Tandoori Masala for a less spicy sauce if desired.
- 1 C Tomato Juice
- 1/4 C Tomato Paste
- 1 Tbl Butter & Tandoori Masala
- 1 tsp Sugar, Lemon Jucie & Kasoori Methi (Fenugreek Leaves)
It is important to pick up a good quality Tomato Paste. Visit your local Middle Eastern store to purchase these. They usually carry a wide variety of better quality tomato paste than the big supermarket chains.
Finish Sauce
Use Red Samosa Dipping Sauce to drizzle over the pizza. This is an Indian flavored sauce that pairs really well with Tandoori Chicken or Pork. It adds sweetness to the mild heat Pizza Sauce and Tandoori Meat.
You could also drizzle over Sour Cream, Yogurt (or variations such as Mint Yogurt, Cilantro Yogurt, Garlic Yogurt), or use 1 Tbl of Samosa Dipping Sauce with 1/2 C Mayo.
Tandoori Chicken
Marinate 2 Chicken Quarters, 4 Drumsticks, or 1 Chicken Breast, in the below marinade. Skin removed or left on. If using Dark meat, slash the chicken 2–3 times to allow more of the marinade to get in. Exchange the Chicken with Pork if desired.
- 1/4 C Neutral Oil & Yogurt
- 1 Tbl Lemon Juice
- 2 Tbl JAH Tandoori Masala
After refrigerating for at least 1 hour, bake accordingly.
Chicken Quarters go into the oven at 375 F for 45 minutes. Flip the chicken halfway through. Shut the oven heat off but leave the chicken in there for 15–20 minutes before stripping it off the bone to use as a topping for the Tandoori Pizza.
Slice the Chicken Breast in half horizontally to get about 1/2 inch fillets. Marinate Chicken Breast, then cook in a skillet over medium heat until done or grilled in a double press grill or panini grill and then diced. About 5–7 minutes for either the skillet or grill with 1/2 inch Chicken Breast Fillets.
Tandoori Pizza Toppings
While the chicken is cooking, slice or dice Onion, Red Bell Peppers & Green Bell Peppers. Add Jalapeño or Serrano peppers for some more heat.
Use Yellow Onions or a mix of Red, White, and Yellow Onions. Add in some Green Onions for Garnishing.
