Chicken
I used Drumsticks for this Air Fried recipe. Use whatever you like, even a whole chicken, chopped down into 9–12 pieces. Visit How to Clean and Prep Chicken for more information, including how to chop the chicken up into 9–12 pieces in preparation for breading.
The Chicken is then marinated before being breaded.
Marinade
Use the marinade that is given as an option for Deep Frying JFC Fried Chicken. This is a mix of the following.
- 1/2 C Water
- 1 Maggi Chicken Bouillon cube or Maggi Season All
- 1/2 tsp Sea Salt & Msg
If you’re doing a lot of chicken, double or triple the amounts.
It’s more of a pre-batter than a marinade. Although you do want the chicken to absorb the flavors in. It doesn’t have to cover the chicken. Just place the chicken in, toss it and refrigerate. Toss it again before breading.
Chicken Seasoning
Use either Maggi Bouillon Cube or Maggi Magic Sarap Season All. With the Bouillon cube, you will have to heat it up with water and dissolve it and then allow it to cool before using. With Magic Sarap you can use it right away.
JFC Breading
The Breading is JFC Frickin Good Chicken Breading. This is absolutely the best Fried Chicken Breading.
JFC Air Fried Chicken
The Chicken goes into the Air fryer in one layer, with no crowding. Each piece having space all the way around. Brush with Oil and Cook at 400 F for about 25 minutes.
I am still experimenting with this since I just got my new Air Fryer, but JFC Chicken can be done in the air fryer with just as good results. 25 minutes appears to be the ideal time. Cook for longer if needed. You want good color on the chicken, and the juices should run clear when resting.
To assist this further, allow the chicken to rest after breading so that it can fully absorb the breading.
Ideally, you want dark meat with an internal temp of 175 F and White Meat at 157 F followed by a rest.
Brush with Oil
Dab with Oil when you first place the chicken into the air fryer.
Halfway through air frying the chicken, brush the chicken with oil again. Flip the chicken pieces over and brush again with oil. Place back into the Air Fryer to finish cooking.
The Oil assists in coating all the breading as well as crisping and browning the chicken. Use a neutral Oil like Canola, Vegetable, or Sunflower Oil.
The thing that I like about the Air fryer is that you don’t have to tie up gallons of oil for the deep fryer.
A simple generous brushing of Oil on the chicken is sufficient, with any excess dripping off.
The other added benefit is that once oil is heated, such as in the deep fryer, it significantly shortens the oil shelf life. With Air frying, you don’t have to worry about that, and you use only enough oil that is required for good frying and browning.
Resting the Chicken
After the Chicken is done. Set it aside to rest, or keep it warm in the oven at 200 F until ready to serve or while you cook up more.
Equipment
- 1 Air Fryer
- 2 Bowls for Marinating and Breading
Ingredients
- 6 Chicken Drumsticks
- 3/4 C JFC Breading
- Neutral Oil as needed for brushing - Canola, Vegetable, or Sunflower Oil
Marinade
- 1/2 C Water
- 1 Maggi Chicken Bouillon Cube - or 1 pack Maggi Season All
- 1/2 tsp Sea Salt & Msg
Instructions
- Dissolve Bouillon cube in a pot with the water. Press it down with a fork as you heat it up to help dissolve it Or just add 1 pack of Maggi Magic Sarap Season all to the water.
- Add in the Salt and Msg and mix well before placing the chicken in and tossing. Refrigerate covered for 1 hour. If using a Bouillon cube dissolved in the water, wait until the marinade has cooled down before adding the chicken.
- Bread the chicken straight from the marinade. Allow the Chicken to rest on the counter for 20 minutes or so until the breading is fully absorbed by the chicken.
- Place into the Air Fryer in a single layer, space between the chicken and no crowding. Dab with a neutral oil and Air Fry at 400 F for 25 minutes. Halfway through cooking, brush the chicken with oil, flip and brush the other side with oil. Place back into the Air fryer to finish cooking.
- Remove the Chicken from the Air Fryer and allow to rest 10 minutes, the Juices should run clear as it rest. Or place into the oven at 200 F to keep warm until ready to serve or while you cook more chicken.
